Friday Madness: Winter wonderland
Inspiration can come from anywhere. And since, as a team, we’re neck deep in designing for our fabulous 2012 clients, everything we look at lately seems to be some form of beautiful or amazing or magical. But, this was unexpected. And more than that, it is completely jaw-dropping. Because it’s real and natural. Coming to you straight from National Geographic, this is the result of wind and snow and freezing weather in Canada.
Leap Day – 29 February 2012
If today is your birthay… Happy Birthday!
Today is February 29 or Leap Day — a day that arrives once every four years. It’s not just another day. Feb. 29th has a important mathematical purpose. It’s accounts for the accumulated extra hours it has taken the Earth to rotate the sun over the past four years. It’s all about setting the calendar in sync with the seasons. But for leapers and leaplings — those born on this auspicious day — today’s the day they can celebrate their actual birthdays. Comic book hero Superman was said to be born on this day on his home planet Krypton. Women in fifth-century Ireland were free to pop the question to their marriage-averse beaus on this day, and this day only. And that’s just for starters. I’ve pulled together some facts and folklore all about the day that comes only once every four years.
Friday Madness: Be still my heart
Sometimes the beauty of things is in its simplicity. Today I am feeling very “less is more” and have fallen in love with this Ban.do iphone case.
Missing in action….
I know we’ve been a wee bit MIA. It’s just, well – we HAVE been working on something pretty awesome. I won’t spoil the surprise, but stay tuned for photos of maybe the most challenging design challenge to date. Then there is the rest of our time spent with all our brides, undevided and attention to detail time.
In the meantime….we owe you guys big time. We owe you a piece of our heart, and here it is. Warning! It’s a little bit long. A little bit raw. And a little bit, ALL of us.
Friday madness: Playing chicken?
This is part of our random Friday fun segment.
A chicken crosses a road in rural Douglas County near Oakland, Oregon, on Monday, January 16, 2012. This begs to ask the question of old: who came first, the chicken or the egg? As a team we are always up late or up early, depending on how you look at it….so this type of question is bound to be asked…..lol! Seems to me the chichen is playing chicken – pun intended – and doesn’t care who came first.
Hand Stitched…really!
As some of you know, I am fond of paper and love this exquisite little find. Hand Stitched… I tell you what, we don’t see this a lot! I adore this piece with all of me because it’s so fantastic in all the simplest ways! It’s a little throwback to something traditional, whilst keeping it fun and fresh.
Dinner Party – Part 3
Planning a Dinner Party – THE DAY OF THE PARTY…….
Planning a dinner party for success, is all about TIMING! So plan this day carefully. Write down on a notepad the times at which the final preparation and cooking/reheating tasks MUST be performed. Use a kitchen timer, oven timer or alarm clock to keep you on track!
- Wash and prepare the vegetables. Pop into sealable polythene bags & refrigerate if space allows.
- Carry out all final preparations necessary prior to last minute cooking. Try to leave as little as possible to the last moment.
Wedding Expo
Wedding Info Centre, Menlyn Retail Park.
The open day at the Wedding Info Centre, Menlyn Retail Park was a huge success. With the weather a bit miserable and cold in the morning when we set up the table, we thought no-one would get out of bed and come to have tea with us. Nor to talk our fabulous table…
Dinner Party – Part 2
Planning a dinner Party – THE DAY BEFORE…….
Let’s start with the single most crucial element for successful entertaining, – PLANNING a dinner party. Get that wrong and you’re fighting a loosing battle. Get it right – and not only will the dinner party run like clockwork, but you will be able to relax and enjoy yourself too!
- Set the dinner table. That’s one less thing to think about while you are cooking!
- Empty your fridge of unnecessary items.
- Buy all of the perishable foods. To save time, do your grocery shopping online, and have them delivered to your door.
Dinnert Party – Part 1
Basic essentials for planning the perfect dinner party…
Well before the occasion, give yourself ample time to sit down with pen and paper and really start planning the dinner party. Consider essential points such as the following:
- What type of dinner party is this to be, casual or formal? Generally, casual or semi-formal dinner parties are better suited to the majority of domestic environments.
- What is the budget? Be realistic! Don’t try to impress by overspending – even with a fairly small budget and a little creativity, you can achieve fantastic results.
- How many guests? Again, be realistic! Never invite more than you are truly comfortable with. If you are hosting this on your own, or even with the help of a partner, keep it to a maximum 6 or 8 guests.
